It is the fifth day of advent, the first Friday in December, and for me it means gathering with a small group of dear friends. We arrive early and work together to prepare lunch. It never varies from one year to the next - a symmetry we have come to cherish.
I came needy this year - for the sure love and encouragement that comes from hearts that have been knit together over time and shared experiences. They encircled me. I felt the warmth of their touch and the words of their prayers fell like grace into my life.
