Dark Days

I shouldn't write on days like these. They come so infrequently and are quickly gone. But they are a part of this journey. I don't want to remember just the good days. I want to remember the days like this one - where I feel so small and everything else looms so large - because He is still here.

On a day like this, though no different really from the days leading up to it, circumstances press in and weigh heavy on the heart. The sun still shines, but all is shrouded in darkness. He calls with that still, small voice, and I turn away. Away from exactly what I need, choosing instead to sit in the darkness.

His is a persistent love. Since I will not come to Him, He comes to me whispering the very words I've memorized this past week:

"I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15:13

A tiny shaft of light pierces the darkness and hope begins to rise once again.

  1. Hi there, Thank you for your sharing and for being honest-we all have those days and struggle with them. But Glory To God that He overcomes the darkness and gives us light.
    May His Light surround you even in the darkness..and give you hope.

  2. Once again, a post of yours touches my heart and expresses exactly how I feel. May the Light of Jesus shine brightly in your heart and life so that the darkness will have to flee away!

  3. I too can certainly relate to your experience, Linda. We live in dark times that seem to be getting darker by the day...oftentimes pressing too close to home. I will be praying for you. Thank you for sharing your heart. And, what a good reminder of the necessity of having scripture ready for the Holy Spirit to use to uplift and establish us in Truth! This is a wonderful verse that I too should memorize.

  4. Thank you for being so open and sharing even your darker days. We all have them but it is a comfort to hear someone say I have them too.

  5. I am praying the verse you posted specifically for you today! {HUGS}

  6. Linda, just recently started reading your blog. Since finding it on Ann's about your journaling. How you encouraged me.

    I think it is amazing how God continues to speak to us... through blog friends and others testimonies and such.

    In May.... I couldn't sleep one night (we were at a guest house at the college my daughter may attend this fall) and I decided I would get up.... so I took my bible and journal and started reading. The Lord gave me the same verse that you memorized this past week.

    I am praying that for you Linda. Plus I appreciate you sharing. I too, every once in a while have one of those days... they do pass quickly for that I am grateful so praying He washes over you and peace comes....

  7. Everyone has days that God has to push through to reveal His love and devotion toward us. He is pushing through it all Linda. He we never stop!

  8. Beautiful post...funny how through blogging I have met such precious Sisters is Christ...I am so thankful God put you in my life and hope we meet in person 1 day...
