As You Have Been Forgiven

We forgive
As we have been forgiven.

He came into our lives
faceless, a shadow
that threatened a loved one
causing fear and worry.

Thoughts of grace and mercy
did not come,
Only the desire to punish
and seek justice.

The word came:
Pray for him.
Asking what seemed impossible
Yet knowing it was right.

Words formed out of obedience
from an unwilling heart
In time became sincere
pleas for blessing.

We never saw, never knew,
But something powerful happened
When we chose to forgive,
As we have been forgiven.

"and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."
Matthew 6:12
"And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins" (Mark 11:25).
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"
Matthew 5:44
