A Legacy
We arrived Tuesday morning to put the booklets together. Our choir would be using them the next evening to rehearse for the big weekend.
Tommy Walker will be coming to our church in a couple of weeks to record a CD and video with our combined, adult, teen and children's choirs.
We have been anticipating it for months.
And so we worked together - punching holes and weaving the rings through the pages - pages filled with words penned long before any of us were alive.
The vision is to bring these hymns to those who have never had the opportunity to hear them and to preserve them for those who will come behind us.
So the inspiring words pass through our hands:
"Praise Him, Praise Him, Jesus our blessed Redeemer..."
Fanny J. Crosby - words
Chester G. Allen - music
"Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love..."
Frances R. Havergal - words
Henri H. C. Malan, Lowell Mason - music
"Abide with me; fast falls the even-tide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me."
Henry Francis Lyte- words
William Henry Monk -music
"All hail the pow'r of Jesus' name!
Let angels prostrate fall..."
Edward Perronet, John Rippon - words
Oliver Holden - music
"Crown Him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon His throne..."
Matthew Bridges, Godfrey Thring - words
George J. Elvey - music
"Fairest Lord Jesus! Ruler of all nature,
O Thou of God and man the Son.
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul's glory, joy and crown..."
anonymous - words
Schlesische Volksliede - music
"O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise,
The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of His grace..."
Charles Wesley - words
Carl G. Slaser/ Lowel Mason - music
"Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Vast unmeasured, boundless, free;
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me..."
Samuel Trevor Francis - words
Thomas J. Williams - music
"Rejoice the Lord is King; Your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing and triumph evermore..."
Charles Wesley - words
John Darwell - music
"This is my Father's world, And to my list'ning ears,
All nature sings and round me rings the music of the spheres..."
Maltbie D. Babcock - words
Franklin L. Shephard
We love our contemporary Christian music. It ministers - speaking to hearts that are needy and lost. These hymns can only add to the blessing. They are our heritage - a precious legacy from those who have gone before us. Many of them were conceived during a time of great suffering - all came to us wrapped in a deep, abiding faith. The words span the gulf of time and speak to us in a powerful way. We are, indeed, blessed.
I am also at Laced With Grace today. Would love to have you stop by!
With love,
Linda
