I have had some anxious moments this past week. There were times I felt overwhelmed - stomach churning, heart pounding, anxiety filling my heart. My thoughts kept running ahead, anticipating things that might never come to pass. I was outwardly okay and inwardly totally out of control.
How is it that at the moment we need it most, wisdom seems to fly out the window? All of the things we know to be true are suddenly overshadowed by our circumstances, and faith that flourished in the sunshine dies in the darkness.
And the Father waits; waits for us to come and take what He holds out to us with open hands. He promises peace and rest; He promises to be with us; He pledges His love with the blood of His beloved Son.
When I slow and walk into His open arms I find it all. He is absolutely faithful.
This is the hymn He put on my heart this week:
"Like A River Glorious"
1. Like a river glorious
Is God's perfect peace,
Over all victorious
In its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth
Fuller ev'ry day,
Perfect, yet it groweth
Deeper all the way.
2. Hidden in the hollow
Of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow,
Never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry,
Not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry
Touch the spirit there.
3. Ev'ry joy or trial
Falleth from above,
Traced upon our dial
By the Sun of Love;
We may trust Him fully
All for us to do
They who trust Him wholly
Find Him wholly true.
Chorus:
Stayed upon Jehovah,
Hearts are fully blest
Finding, as He promised,
Perfect peace and rest.
