There can be no doubt that we are living in difficult times. If it were possible to somehow escape the headlines and stories about war, disease, famine, persecution and coming doom; if it were possible to ignore the images of unimaginable evil, we have only to answer the phone or talk to a friend to feel overwhelmed by despair. Suffering, it seems, surrounds us. Some days it feels like things are out of control.
